In August, 2011 Bloomington Transit (Bloomington, Indiana) released a Request for Proposals for a new website design. And, in November 2011, Greg Albright Design was awarded the contract over eleven other firms. The final website, created by Greg Albright Design, was launched on August 10, 2012.

Bloomington Transit carries about 3.25 million riders annually, with increases every year. And, Indiana University, with a student enrollment of over 42,000 per year is the major ridership generator for Bloomington Transit, with every two out of three students using the system.

“In today’s competitive environment, it is very difficult for a small firm to land larger projects. But, with our experience as designers, developers and programmers and our hands-on approach to doing the work, it was gratifying to know that even smaller firms have opportunities to make a difference.” Greg Albright, Owner, Greg Albright Design

This website was designed and developed with mobile devices and tablets in mind. It was also developed for the visually and hearing impaired. Said Greg, “We’ve taken important steps in developing a website that was reviewed by several authorities and the IU Adaptive Technology Services Department in Bloomington. We felt that a functional website was critical, rather than a glitzy website with lots of bells and whistles.”

The new website has utilized much technology that will help commuters in their local travels. More improvements will be forthcoming in new phases, but currently the website provides such services as pushing Tweets of the latest Alerts and Detours that are posted, a Google Trip Planning Widget that allows for easy access to get around town, large graphical maps of over 14 routes and nearly 30 time schedules throughout the year and much more. The entire website will be maintained by Bloomington Transit and is hosted by the City of Bloomington, Indiana.
